curating unapologetic spaces for black womxn's artistry

blackwomxnhealing centers creativity as a tool for spiritual reclamation. in each of our community gatherings, we offer opportunities for Black womxn to engage various forms of creative expression. we draw/ color/ paint/ collage/ journal/ photograph/ film/ knit/ crochet. we find ways to merge our creativity with our healing, as we believe that the creative is spiritual and the spiritual is creative. deeply inspired by alice walker's womanist ideology, we view art as an intergenerational modality of healing that returns us to ourselves and to our roots.

our bi-annual exhibitions celebrate black womxn artists from all over the world, and black girl artists whose work inspires us as black womxn to reconnect with and reclaim our own black girlhoods. we hosted our first exhibition, this sh*t is for us: an exhibition of #blackgirlhealing, in Spring 2019 at the university of california, berkeley's fannie lou hamer black resource center. our next exhibition, #blackgirlquarantine: an exhibition of blackwomxnhealing in the wake of 2020, will be hosted virtually in Spring 2021.
